Paul Meredith –
I got this retriever after breaking a standard 16ft retriever, using several heads until settling on the max distance suction ball head. With the nearly double length I can reach discs 20+ feet out in the river a few feet in depth with light current. Discs farther than 25 feet are often too difficult to see and get leverage to stick the ball head, quickly at least. The added length works most to my advantage from a high river bank giving leverage to stick the disc at full extension and no need to slide down the bank and get all muddy like with shorter discs. The finish of the carbon is slightly ridged and you can feel the wrap on the carbon, not slick like a carbon wrapped kayak paddle, at first it felt strange but perfect for grip. Extension is super easy but retraction is a learned skill especially in freezing weather, tricky but not a big deal. My only problem with the retriever is the split rings and S carbineer included as a half ass solution to keep it from sliding out when not in use, for 150 a more elegant solution should be implemented. The rings are cheep and bent when I removed them and the s carbineer was too big and cheep. I replaced both with a Nite eyes s carbineer and loop of tent pole Bungie cord. I have mounted my retriever on my AT zuca cart and it fits well but does stick up above seat in the back. The website lists the width at 2 inches, I was worried it would feel too wide but It feels like a kayak paddle width and the shaft measures in just under 1.5 inches. Overall this is the best longest retriever available and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to retrieve easier and farther.
